Year of Jazz at the Carver with Jeff Lofton

The Year of Jazz February concert at the Carver Community Cultural Center featured Austin-based trumpeter Jeff Lofton and his quartet. The Jo Long Theatre was packed with close to 600 jazz fans to see and hear the band pay tribute to music made famous by the Miles Davis Quintet during the 1950s. Jeff Lofton Quartet's Miles Tribute takes stage for Year of Jazz at the Carver


Austin-based trumpeter, composer and band leader, JEFF LOFTON will be at the Carver Community Cultural Center, Saturday, February 11th at  8 p.m.  In celebration of Trinity University’s, Jazz (91.7) KRTU, 10th anniversary, the Carver will  showcase Lofton and his 1950’s Miles Davis Tribute featuring Davis’ compositions and interpretations made famous by the Miles Davis Quintet during 1950-1959.

NPR affiliate KUT 90.5 in Austin describes Lofton as “….a veritable jazz virtuoso.”  Lofton’s techniques are often compared to such great jazz artists as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie and John Coltrane.  Originally from South Carolina, Lofton has been in Austin, Texas since 2007 and has made his mark in the local jazz scene.  He was voted Best  Jazz Band at the 2010-2011 Austin Music Awards during SXSW. In 2009, his album, “Jazz to the People”, made top albums lists for the Austin Chronicle and KUT.  In 2010, Lofton’s new group, the Jeff Lofton Electric Thang, debuted the first album, “Chasing the Voodoo Down – Live at the Cactus Café.  The sound is described as jazz-funk, rock fusion.
